Our Story
Vort was founded with a specific conviction: that South African institutions — defence, legal, financial, and public — need AI infrastructure they can actually own. Not cloud-dependent black boxes, not foreign platforms with no accountability chain, but sovereign systems designed for the regulatory and operational realities of the country.
We built vb0, our flagship large language model, from the ground up — training it on South African legal corpora, financial filings, and enterprise documentation. Every inference runs on SA-domiciled hardware. Every audit log stays in-country. Every capability is matched to a real use case, not a benchmark.
Today Vort operates across three verticals: enterprise AI software, defence intelligence systems, and foundational model research — all connected by a single principle: AI must be safe, auditable, and in the hands of the people it serves.
What we stand for
AI that stays within South African borders — auditable, controllable, and free from foreign dependency.
Safety, fairness, and human oversight are not afterthoughts. They are architectural requirements from day one.
We build for the operational reality of regulated industries — legal, financial, defence, and public institutions.
Every system we ship reflects the latest findings from AI safety, alignment, and systems research.
